The attendance office is located inside the main office to the left.
Students who are 18 may not excuse themselves from school or specific class periods. To excuse any student absence, the district requires notification from the parent/guardian regardless of student age. The ONLY exception to this rule is if a student has been legally emancipated from their parents and provides proof of such court action. In that case, schools may accept a written notification from the student. (Page 5, Portland Public Schools Attendance Handbook for 2014-2015)
Tardies
You are tardy if you:
- Arrive to class within 15 minutes after the bell. Students must have a note from teacher, staff member, or attendance office to excuse the tardy. Turn the note in to the Attendance Office as soon as possible and within 2 days. Without a note, the tardy is unexcused.
You will be marked absent if you:
- Arrive to class more than 15 minutes after the bell. Students must have a note from a teacher, staff member, or attendance office to receive an excused absence. Turn the note in to the attendance office as soon as possible and within 2 days. Without a note, the tardy becomes an unexcused absence.
Absences
Excessive Absences: Wilson HS defines excessive absences as a total of 4 unexcused class absences or 10+ excused class absences, for any reason, per semester.
To Avoid Unexcused Absences:
- Turn in a note from parent/guardian explaining the absence to the attendance office within 2 days of returning to school OR parent/guardian can call (503-916-5280 x75265) or email (smatthei@pps.net) within 2 days of returning to school.
- Sign out at the Attendance Office before leaving campus during the day.
- Sign in at the Attendance Office when arriving to school late.
- Make sure you and your parents/guardians are communicating with the attendance office (via email or phone at 503-916-5294).
